Guidelines for Using Large Language Models (LLMs)

To ensure data security, confidentiality, and compliance with institutional policies, please adhere to the following rules when using Large Language Models (LLMs):

✅ Use only local GWDG-hosted LLMs (see GWDG AI Services – Available Models) for the following cases:

Processing personal information or sensitive data
Uploading or analyzing non-open-access papers or documents
Discussing internal institute matters or confidential issues

❌ Avoid using external or public LLMs (e.g., commercial chatbots) for the above scenarios to prevent data leaks, privacy violations, or unauthorized access.

By following these guidelines, you help protect sensitive information and ensure compliance with GWDG and institutional policies. For more details, visit the GWDG AI Services Documentation.

For the MPI Biogeochemistry, the directorate decided (June 2026) “that first authors and/or corresponding authors from our institute should in future provide a statement on the use of AI tools.”
